I never eat or drink on the water. although I'm fully aware of the benefit of energy release I have just never needed it.

Plus I get pretty nervous so anything in my stomach seems to want to escape. Not good in a wetsuit and harness.

We tend to make sure we have 20 camel's or embassy filters and an electronic lighter in the dry bag....if a long distance race we squeeze in 40

Try eating a few really greasy pastries before you go sailing like croissants, i dunno if it actually work or whether it was a mental thing but gets rid of my nerves every time at big events. a mate of mine up until he was 20 was given these pills that were suppose to calm him down, turns out his old man was giving him an asprin before racing and feeding him some bull about how it lowers heart rate etc lol. worked a treat though.

If you think the 14's bad, try attaching food to a 600, let alone trying to sail the damn thing and eat at the same time. The easiest way (before i could actually sail the thing properly) is to have something small in the ba, dry capsize and eat it on the board

I once did a National 12 Burton Week at Porthpean, and they brought us out foil wrapped pasties between races...
Now that's a friendly club....

I've never tried eating fags, but I'll give it a go next time out

Dancing girls wrapped in cling film...which club is that? We'll have to get ourselves an event there.

Malt loaf just sticks in your teeth - you end up looking like Wurzel Gummidge.

Dr Alice Roberts' BBC series "Don't Die Young" featured a programme on hydration. One part of the programme was about sports people and the amount of water they get through. She showed this by getting a couple of similar Bristol rugby players to drink a litre of water after an exhausting training session and then measured their urine output after 1 hour. The difference was that one player's water had had some salt added to it. The guy who drank the salt free water peed out very much more than the guy who had the saline solution. Alice recomended that if you were getting into a hydration situation then you should be adding some salt to your liquid as that enabled the water to stay absorbed by the cells rather than just get flushed through without doing a huge amount. Obviously don't put in more salt than you need and indeed if it tastes salty then you've probably put in too much, all you need is probably no more than you would put on a bag of chips. Does this work... well yes, from my perspective, when ever i am going to do any exercise i will firstly start with a half litre of squash with a dash of table salt added, you will certainly notice an improvement on calf cramping too.
