Laser 2 sounds about right. You could even get it in the 'Fun' version without the trapeze or spinnaker.

Only takes two for this ... but it's not really RYA level 2 safe  but seriously you are going to struggle with just about any boat that isn't made from exotics.

If for example you had a van it is then possible to "car top" a lot more boats.

Obviously a Laser Pico is a one adult, one child boat and car toppable but isn't a 2 adult boat and comes in under budget new.

What about a Miracle? Could this be car topped easily?

Whatever double hander boat you get will require at least three people to get it off due to the weight/shape of it.

What's the weight limit on the roof of your vehicle? The days when you could chuck up anything that didn't actually crush the roof are long gone, and ypu mustn't exceed the permissible limit...

You are much better off going for a combi trailer it much quicker and easier. Most second hand boats come with them anyway.

Laser 2 springs to mind. Nice and narrow to tie down, and pretty cheap. Watch out for max load allowances, though.
I've regularly roof topped a Firefly, and this works fine, though the mast sticks out front and back, of course.

National 12? Can get em nice and cheap.

Tasar?

NS14? (Way out of budget I think, but might be one to look at for ideas?)

Why are you looking to rooftop rather than tow? You open yourself up to a lot more options if you can tow the boat.

[/QUOTE]

What you want from a boat?

Club race evenings (2 adults), take the young family exploring (one at a time) at weekends in sheltered waters.

Budget?

Up to £2500 but preferably a lot less

Sailing ability?

RYA Level 2 plus some real world experience.

I more interested in options at this point in time, so as I suspect that car topable and double handed already restricts them I don’t want the above to influence the suggestions too much.

Apart from the obvious Mirror (great boat but slower than I'd like) any other suggestions for a Double Hander that will go on the roof rack of a MPV without needing a crane to get it on and off.
