800 kites are not masthead.
14 kites go wherever you like....

Which is usually at the top of the mast

BBSCFaithfull we are tempted by 14's because they are so cheap...

what is the race circuit like for the 14's as we want to be racing at opens etc regularly

also are 14's mast head kites?

but i guess we will go to ally pally boat show and go to different stands giving people X amount of time to 'sell' their class to us. now that would be fun

Guys get an older 14 with the pin head type mains. You'd be faster than an 800 and you'd have more fun especially downwind! As the wind increased all you'd have to do is pull on the caps and cunningham a bit more and get the leech to open out! Trust me 14s are forever

Yeh .. Looking at the equalisation guide, I think we will have the wings right out, Granny bars on, Quite probably ( at first anyway ) the "Single Trapeze" versions trampolines ( Until we are used to crossing that wide a boat without stacking it out the other side )

Oh .. And not forgetting the 15 KG of lead.

You'll be fine in an 800 at 130kg.  You'll just have to accept that there's going to be a fair bit of distance to run from rack to rack in tacks and gybes.  The 800 is a really nice boat, thus why i'm going to be on the hunt in october for one for myself.  Semi battoned main means you aren't going to get beaten up in the big breeze, so you won't come off the water after a windy day with a bruised ego.

Yes, I, am yet again, looking for another boat to add to my collection.

Myself and ratface are going to start sailing again together for the winter, and will be racing the spice, but we have big aims!

We have discussed it .... and are considering an RS800 soon after the Ally-Pally boat show. Only thing is ... We have only seen one close up for about a minute ... as we walked past it on the RS stand last boat show. Looked good then!

Would anyone allow us to come and have a look at their boat, and maybe go for a quick "test sail" in the near future?

Total all up weight, 130Kg ( Or near on )

Would mostly be "Playing Away" and sailing at Datchet / Queen Mary / Grafham / Hayling Island, with the occasional few days at BLYM in the winter series. ( Small, Shifty fun!! )

Ideas? Suggestions? Thoughts?

Would an 800 suit us? Any other classes that we should consider? ( If someone mentions a Cherub though .... I think I shall scream. )

Cheers,

James
