The Osprey at the show appeared to be built in Polyester resin considerably cheaper than vinylester that the Contender is built from.

Aprox £3 per/kg Polyester £7 per/kg Vinylester the boats have similar surface areas so the Contender looks quite good value in this instance. Particually with a Carbon rig included.

The Phantom is built from epoxy which has similar if not higher prices than Vinylester and a Carbon rig.

If you want to compare prices of boats, why not compare like for like?

15 stone? Bloody lightweights - I'm looking at a combined crew weight of about 37 stone this year... Take that name seriously Pete...

Sorry Stan    Marvellous effort mate. I'll have to get both my eldest boys in with me

However, I have sailed my Osprey with six large (6ft) yoofs and their gear down Weir Wood from one end to the other in high wind and rain.  The boat went like a train with spinny up, but it didn't half creek going round the corners, and took some time to slow down.  Marvellous.

I get what you mean about the double bottomed floor, but I dont see much difference between the way my Contender cockpit drains and the Osprey one does - both have tubes leading from cockpit out the back of the transom.

Still both Beautiful Boats :).

However Phantoms are hugely overpriced IMO.

What are those big holes in the back of my Osprey transom then...

They're either dainage holes or wood worm

The osprey has a single layer of foam laminate or wood for the cockpit floor, whereas the contender is double bottomed, ie two sets of foam laminates joined with an internal foam structure, most people would agree that this is a more complex construction!

Though i believe the rest is right. A Contender is 8k with all the kit whereas on top of the 8k you need to add trailer and covers and the very optional Carbon rig (£736)

The problem i have is that i tend to do normal speak in my texts as well so they end up going on for several meassages, luckily i get a whole load free each month and have yet to reach the limit.

And back on subject, the only way a new Finn could be looked as value for money is if it's how much kg/£ you get, they seem to be expensive about 10 grand for a fitted out boat.

Bear in mind that Hartleys own the rights to the Osprey, and aren't building under licence.  If you know anything about the Hartleys then you'll have seen these guys know a bit about manufacturing and business outside of the world of boats.
