12s actualy have a 45kg minimum weight which doesnt include that hefty bowsprit
Cherubs are 50kg but DO include the bowsprit and thier rigs weigh a lot less so theres not much difference at all

I've said this before but most UK Clubs not having a skiff tradition can get
a bit narked with all us Cherub boys rolling over our boats to rig, if you
then combine that with another 20 ft of pole out the front space and
understanding is likely to become a big issue.

Id definantly agree there, I have enough trouble finding space to roll the moth over some days: doing the same with the cherub is not something im really looking foreward too and thats without that huge fixed pole, and without swapping the entire rig everytime you got sailing to match the wind conditions.

The only difference now between UK Cherubs and 12 ft skiffs is that 12
footers have multiple unlimited rigs and there min weight is 40kg instead
of 50kg, UK Cherubs have a rig which is close to what a 12 footer uses
when the breeze is fresh.

We have limited sail area and limited the mast height to keep the boats
within a reasonable cost. We also don't have fixed bow sprits for practical
reasons.

So for now anyone wanting to see what a 12 footer is like should get
onboard a 2005 rules UK Cherub. It's the closest thing you are going to
get this side of a £600 pound air fair or about £18,000 if you want to
build one.

Oh plus.... if you start off in a 2005 UK Cherub you might have a cat in
hells chance of being able to sail one!

Weve had this before...

UK cherubs measure as 12s and can race with them anytime you fancy shipping one to the southern hemisphere. Our new rigs are the equivelant of their no3 rigs with slightly smaller kites and at least one, and I think possibly 2 cherubs have 12 footer no2 rigs they play with every now and again.

So to answer your question your gonna have to specify you you define '12 foot skiff' If it has to have a badge on which states it, wait a few years untill we get some imported. Otherwise open your eyes and look closer
