Read it again. The i14 put a second string on in '84, and adopted the asymettric kite in '88. In both cases they were way behind Aus/NZ. The first two hander to run two strings was probably the R Class Fresco in New Zealand in 1959. The Qs and Twelves wouldn't have been far behind and were certainly two string in the early 70s, and indeed at that time the 18s were three string with pole kites.

I know they all began with symmetric but not with twin trapeze and symmetric.  When these boats had symmetric spinnakers they had a single trapeze.
