The amount of colour on the sail also went from striped panels to highlights at some point. Sailors got boring? Or more taste? Coincides with drop off in sailor numbers, too.

I can’t believe everyone thought the red hull with red,white and blue sail was the best colour scheme. I would gladly pay a small premium to have the choice of something else.

I guess that is it fundamentally ...
that said over the years there;s been a couple of different blues , yellow , 'raspberry' and dark grey as well as the classic red topisdes and hasn;t the hull mouliding had phases of mre white or more grey ... |

It's well known that certain colours are faster. Everyone one knows that some Ducatis are faster than others for this reason. Most people agree on this. So if you want a proper SMOD, they all need to be the same colour. But not everyone agrees which is the faster colour!
