Well, if this commentator was the IRL selection panel, he could have been in with a shout (or perhaps this commentator is CR, that would explain a lot) |

I have to say I feel the same way ... are these businesses being taken for a ride or are they extracting some Olympic hopeful glow on the cheap by sponsoring a no-hoper? Had this guy ever had a reasonable placing in a decent regatta?

I'm not sure what to think about this, on the one hand it's the reality TV approach coupled to a naive belief that hard work and training alone should be enough for anyone dedicated enough to succeed, or and I don't know the answer to this, but has Ireland got a male Laser Olympic rep? I know they don't have a Windsurfer because my nephew who is of Irish decent (Grandfather) could qualify but the RYA won't release him. So it could be with that goal in mind, in which case he could get to go to the Olympics and this is a way of financing all the training that would be necessary for him to have anything other than an Eddie the Eagle prayer.
I think some of you are showing a little of the green eyed monster having too much of a go at him, not that I've followed this he's obviously made some silly assertions prior to all this, but what was that Europa Regatta that he won? He can't be totally useless can he? |

It is recognised that some of the most successful businessmen have a psychopathic element to their personality that might be needed to enable "mass redundancies" to be effected as cost saving practices when it is clear that those actions devastate communities. Is it fraud?.. I am not sure, businesses are approached all the time for sponsorship or business to business input. It is up to them to carry out "due diligence" to protect their shareholders or owners from unwise investments. What is clear is he is not approaching anyone in the sailing industry and you have to be pretty special to get a financial contribution from an unrelated industry. Anyone who is really worried can always forward a link to this thread to ill-informed parties.

Some results here ... Sail for Gold Silver Fleet 50th from 53 ... Really it is good to have vision and dreams and to see people going after those dreams but this looks like Fantasy to me ...

The only conclusion I can draw from this is that it's some kind of social media experiment or case study project for Ogily.... to secure that many genuine sponsors / patrons / £500 club members whatever, would imnsho, be a hell of a feat for a professional athlete who'd pick sailing for a discipline - even for someone with RYA backing and a results card to show for themselves.
