Not the Launch tube- The carbon pole... I can't see how it can be watertight and self launching...

There are a number of different ways to skin that cat, but yes, its more than possible to have a sealed pole through the bow tank...

I guess he's using a similar system to the old B14 arrangement (found on the Rondar built hulls in the UK). For this, there's a fixed pole inside the extending pole, with blocks at the outer end, used to pull the pole out. The tack line runs out the inboard end of the inner pole into the cockpit. Mindyou, that system eats blocks and rope, and requires good lubrication. The trench system on the Ovington and new Synthesize hulls is much more reliable. Not as elegant, but less time is spent searing at the pole. this shows the arrangement when it gets taken out of the boat |

For anyone interested, Peter has added a page about retro-fitting the kite system -www.peterkovesi.com/home/farr37/kite.html
Hugh (and others), I'll be writing to Peter again to find out more about the launch/recovery system. The Rondar B14 system is pretty clever and does chew ropes a bit, but I suspect that most of this is down to poor block/attachment point alignment. I've not had a good poke at the trench system on the Ov boats, but I think the major advantage of this was the extra stiffness in the foredeck, rather than any operational improvement of the pole system.
