Three rigs = 3 PY numbers: for an individual race you have the PY for that rig. For series scoring the responsibility is with Clubs to choose the format to adopt.

FWIW our club has chosen that the points will follow the Sailor, whatever they sail or if they are crew or helm. We have decided to go all out for rewarding participation.

Exactly how alot of clubs deal with the Laser's 3 different rigs :)

I've maybe missed it as not been following this thread much (as not really interested in a new supercharged version of the laser) but are there any proposed PY's for the 3 different boats yet?
I'm guessing around 1010-1030 ish for the bigger rigs?
Slower than a 300 but quicker than a laser....

Not sure anyone is having a hissy fit with RS or the Aero sailors.  But its a good debate, none the less.

Yes, it's the same one we had on the Rpeculation thread towards the end, and indeed few pages into this one. I can't believe The Tea Party haven't joined us. They must try to keep up.

We're still lurking but as this discussion is more about class/rig swapping and clubs, not the py system itself, the tea and biscuits are being kept warm for another day.

It amuses me that you think the two are not directly connected.... if everyone switches rigs, then really, there is only need for one central EN, with local adjustment if the club deem it appropriate.

Not that will happen- people tend gravitate towards one rig in the long term, thus creating a statistical anomaly if a small minority continue to switch about.

This isn't really about RS at all (they have made it quite clear it is 3 classes) OR Aero sailors, but about the way clubs run handicap racing, and the effect that has on results and yardsticks. But whatever clubs do, it should be fair for all.

As I said, it's about rig swapping and how CLUBS do returns not the system itself. Glad you find it amusing. Your posts always have the same effect on me. Well, I shake my head and then burst out laughing .

I don't see the logic in having 3 different PYs for the different rigs and calling it 3 different classes.  It would be like changing the PY of a boat if it puts a reef in.  So are you then going to have multiple PYs for Wayfarers, RS600s, etc?

And then what about 12ft and 18ft skiffs?

Their PYs (and those of yachts) are calculated based in them using the right rig and sail combination for the conditions (in the same way as you would reef an RS600 or Wayfarer), so surely the RS Aero PY should be calculated based on the boat having all 3 rigs and using the right one for the conditions.
Never sheet out.

That would mean a kid sailing an Aero 5 would have a number based on returns from boats with sails nearly twice the size. Seems logical to me to split them.
