actually it's rather poetic, which chateau were drinking?  Claret or Beaujolais... one assumes you know the difference?

I think that the image of Yacht clubs being 'posh' is an illusion on the whole. Some Yacht Clubs that I have visited have areas that can only be described as lands of lost dreams. Ancient hulks  propped up as they re cycle themselves into the mud. Half restored leviathans reeking of faded dreams and failed marriages. Those dreams of cruising past golden beaches and nodding coconut laden palms all gone. This is where those dreams end, dereliction, misery and eventual destruction.

But out there crowded onto a complexity of jetties are shining gadget laden toys. Fluttering burgees and vinyl signage, surely they must be posh? In the bar you see them, overweight plastic window salesmen and butchers. Haulage contractors and plumbers merchants. Fat feet squashed into deck shoes, shorts tight over bulging buttocks.

Talking crap again chaps, good night......

Perception is reality... or so a marketing guru once told me anyway.

The discussion on here is all sorts of things, and being circular is one of the least of its troubles!

The eyes of the non-sailing world, who see sailing as a G&T on the aft deck thing, which is roughly where we were on page 1, and have no clue that clubs like the one I described exist.

Sailing clubs are posh, full stop. Even if it is a £50 a year muddy puddle with 17 old men as members, sailing knackered old GP14's, it is posh in the eyes of the world.

The "posh" and "rich" confusion is creeping in again....

But even in rip off Ireland that is "only" 500 euros per year. Probably a lot less in UK. We are not talking Yacht club - 30year old FF15s, 20 yr old Lasers and ancinet bilge-keelers. It is a PBO reading club not Y&Y or the posh magazines.

But then you have to be a member of a sailing (or worse, Yacht) club, and all that posh stuff...
