erm sorry I am kinda sat on the fence at the moment but would some one just explain to me exactly what the rs 900 is, is it just like an alternative to the 29er xx and aimed at the same weight range as it but with just the one rig option?

Wow. You really do come out with some crap. I use to give you the benefit of the doubt.

I'm usually just a reader of the forum, as I love to hear what everyone on hear as to say. However, the utter drivel that you post, deters others and myself from bothering to post anything at all.

Grow up mate.

I'm not speaking crap i'm afraid. Lots of RS boats at my club have had blinding BQ errors. Such as pintels coming out, foils snapping (whilst sailing along). Cleats coming out of a brand new 400.

200s that leek like the preverbial siv.

So i feel my comments are justified.

I'm not really bothered by what you think simsy. Big smile

Well if we want proper build quality, I expect Jon Turner or Laurie Smart could still build a nice wood Merlin.

But are we prepared to pay for it?

My RS400 is quite old now (3 figure number), it gets used regularly on the sea, I have very few complaints about the way it is put together.
I think it stands up well to comparison with most of the quantity builders.
There are horror stories circulating about most of the builders, depending on who you ask.
For sure RS have flogged some rudder blades which have broken, that should not happen in a SMOD class where an extra few ounces of glass would make it muppet-proof.

BBSC faithful - not pleasant to read what you say. My concern would be that any owner that did suffer due to product issues was properly looked after.
Were any of these issues on a boat of yours? If not and you pm'd me details I will happily contact them to check all is well.

We work really hard at customer service, like many small businesses these days, and are proud of our recent record - our one man after-sales team is often seen helping in the workshop because he has no issues on the go (we sell 1500 or so PA). That refelects well on QC in the recent past, but also ensures he can drop everything and sort any problem that does crop up.

Nick.

Alex, i think you are being a little harsh mate.  Everyone knows RS had some issues when they exported production to Brazil, but (and forgive me as it was nothing to do with me) as i understand it they replaced and repaired where neccessary.  But other then that i have heard of very little issues.  How long have RS been producing boats now?  Some of these boats are coming on to 20 years old now so they are bound to have 'Some' Issues.

That is fair enough. But occurrences of the such can happen to any boat, not strictly RS boats.

My main query would be, that if the boat is quicker with 150kgs in it than say 120kgs, surely that isn't directly aimed at two average weighted females!?

I think we'd have some very ripped and muscular girls, no?

Depends how windy though surely - you can optimise a boat for a certain weight and wind strength say10 -12 knots but hit 20 knots of wind and an extra 30kg will always be faster (for teh same ability level) surely!
