The fact you may be thinking of is that 1% of the UK own 23% of the wealth. The top earning 10% own a massive 56% and the poorest 50% own less than 5% of the wealth. This clearly shows that there are a few rich individuals for whom the location in the UK they live is irrelevant - so rich they can live where it is comfortable, and inconvienient.

Excluding the super rich - i.e. top wealthiest 10% - the average weekly income for the North east is £286; for the South East is £450 ; for London it is £556. North south divide does exist. Saying Yorkshire and Cheshire are the richest places in the UK tells me you don't go there very often.
