I do this too with the vortex, particularly when I started racing it last year and didn't have much confidence in flying the kite in any kind of wind. I am able to sign on with and without spinnaker and use either 937 or 960 depending on which I sign on as that race. They run 2 sets of results for me during the year and it relies on honesty and sportsmanship to make it work? It says which handicap I am using next to each of the 2 entires in the series. That way they have my sail number and boat recorded and the signing on sheets tells them which handicap I am? I think it went wrong twice. On the initial night when I first used the kite and the results got entered as non-kite. Mid season when someone accidentaly aggregated the 2 results. Easily sorted in sailwave though (thanks to club secretary being dead handy at sailwave) Edited by simonrh |

may be but you are looking at a class that has been around
yours not a new class and with the laser the shape of the sail is compleaty different to and most of the clubs that i have sailed if there club racing is divided into fleets all the lasers sail togever and there is no handy cap involved first accrose the line wins what ever rig your in which i think works really well but to be honist this is isont going to effect me to much at just over 100kg there not going to be to meany days where im not going to be in the 10.2 |

Most OODs have got the hang of the blue corner on a radial sail, haven't they? Or have they?!

i dont think this will work that well it be ok at open
meeting as the ood with have read the si and know something about the boat but at club level you get volentears that are the ood that can be from any other class and there not nesseraly going to know anything about rs100 there simperly look at the sail sine that will say rs100 and the number 104 ect and thats all that will be write down and they will know nothing about a "swooch" or the importance of the colour of the number |

...on behalf of those who volunteer to do OOD duty at their clubs (hopefully not over-stepping the mark here) can I just say "thank you". Refreshing to have some thought about such a simple, but apparently difficult to achieve, issue from LDC - GJ!
...as for those of you racing about without any numbers on your sails... ![]() |

The 2 sails are called "10.2" and "8.4". apart from looking diffent sizes, the 10.2 has a black "swoosh" near the clew and black sail numbers, and the 8.4 has a white swoosh and (we were considering) white sail numbers. Then your race officer, finishing the first open with 10.2's and 8.4,s on the same course could say into his dictaphone: "white 104, black 107, etc". Easy for any race officer. would go in class rules etc. what do we think?

yes, I think agree with that - its how things are done at my club. It should be that people honestly declare which rig they sail with when signing on. Edited by asterix |

Thats fine as long as you don't change the rig halfway through the series. If you do then you have to race off the faster PY like with the laser fleets. The sails need to be clearly different otherwise the club race officers will never be able to police it! My feelings on the matter are that if you start a club series in one rig, you should have to complete it in the same rig to get your result, if you change boats (or in this instane rig) then your results in the new rig should not count towards the series points! |

No, you're right the difference is probably not that extreme. But its a nice problem to have choosing between a Porsche and a Lotus |

Not quite as extreme as that though is it? There is a smaller sail for lighter helms and a bigger sail for heavier. To put it in your car context, think of it as a Lotus 7 vs a Porsche 911 The Lotus is lighter with less power but just as quick as the heavier Porka! Equalised weight for power scenario!
Anyway, if its going to be two classes then two numbers makes sense the Rs100 and the RS100 XL. I just wasn't buying into the 'its windy today I'll stick the small rig on and drop 10 PY points' vibe. Sounds great, can't wait to have a go. |
