However the PY debate, like it or not, will keep rumbling.  Its such an emotive subject, with very little understanding by the wider dinghy community.  Its also big business nowadays.  i guess most club races are now handicap led, so i can understand peoples frustrations.
Personally I am glad to see some big shake ups of historic bandit classes, sure its the systems fault not theirs.  However its not healthy for the sport.
Perhaps it would make sense for the RYA to publish a book/brochure around the PY system for dummies, highlighting some of the myths, explaining how the system works and more importantly what the clubs should be doing to aid the system do its job.  If there was a greater understanding across the whole dinghy community then people would put a more reasoned pressure on their sailing club to fall in-line with the system correctly.
As for people getting bored with the PY debate, i am afraid its the most popular subject for a reason.  People like talking about it.  So the only way round things is to start new threads about other aspects of the sport.  Sadly until such time as new topics which interest people are bought up we will keep going round in the same circle!

Russ, as a user of bike radar, you know the py argument is the same as the sky doping argument that pops up in loads of threads. In that one people just post pictures of rocks when their bored with it. I can do that if you'd rather.
As grf and James say when they post rubbish, its a forum,if you don't like it, ignore it.

I often wonder, it doesn't keep me up late, but I do ponder occasionally what the Tea Party do find interesting, what could we possibly discuss that would have some positive input from them?

This is all (relatively) new to me I realise y'all have been round the block several times and had your enthusiasm crushed, but I still think if enough noise and discussion gets made, somewhere, in the darker reaches of some dusty corner of the Royal Yacht Squadron or wherever it is Mr RYA has dozed off knocking his medication off the arm of his chair, a flunky might dare to give him a shake.. 'they're stirring your worship, they're not happy and we didn't make our figures this year..'

Ah, I wondered what sky dopping was - wondered if there was a r missing, never occurred to me it was an extra p. Yes, I can see that would cause similar round in circles arguements, but in this case, the yardsticks affect what many of us do on a Sunday morning, whereas I assume doping is very rare indeed for Sunday morning cyclists?

But thats the problem....People at sailing clubs are not aware there is anything changed.  So they are happy in their ignorance.  Why not print the attached and send it out for circulation.  Maybe a big publicity drive to make people more aware.  At the moment all i see is forum traffic here.  Given as its probably the most popular form f club racing now, it needs more focus to help get things right!

Russ, Their race section and dinghy development are very similar. The difference is, on bike radar if you don't the threads in the race section there are more than twenty other active sections and hundreds of threads. Unlike y&y where there is one active section and half a dozen active threads. It's very sad watching its decline.

precisely- people don't want to hear it.  PY makes a wonderful excuse to cover up the imperfections in our own sailing.

Tightening it up, making it more credible- well despite best intention, it doesn't seem to translate into a more satisfying racing experience imho.....

Well BR restructured its a forum a while back.  We have had the same thread format for about 7 years or more.  I really think it could do with a reshuffle as dinghy development is the 'go to' now.  Perhaps Mark and the team could look at some other forums for influence?  I still think this site misses a massive trick with not allowing forum classifieds.  In fact this was proven when James and I set up the facebook group, which now has 6500 members and an active flow of postings!!!!

Even the tea party group who moan about PY threads, cant think of content to start new threads around as 'Dinghy Development' is such a broad brush!  Obviously forums are always going to reduce in size as social media platforms develop.  But with new forum subject categories, classifieds and places for classes to post (perhaps a Your classes thread for each class) i think this place could better utilise its resource.
