I think that they're really looking at targeting Phantom, possibly Finn and maybe Blaze sailors looking for a bit more of a challenge. I would have thought that maybe £8k - £9k would probably be as much as they could charge and generate some proper interest? Don't know how much a new Phantom is, I spent £5500 on mine nearly new a couple of year back.

BUT I brought the IC for the reason that it is varnished all over & the only paint is on the seat & centerboard.
However I have never sailed her yet,sliding seat should be fun,cassette rudder should also be a laugh a minute for launching & landing,toe straps are mounted the wrong way ( along the seat rather then along the boat ) & you walk round the back of the boom rather then duck under,So it`s nothing like I have ever sailed before, So with the proper TLC she will be back on the water,at the back of the fleet!With a helm who completly wrong for the boat, too heavy,too stiff,too set in his way`s So to answer that question - Yes I did & I am glad that I made that decision. |

The boom on it is really low, lower than a contender, in one of their pictures of it sailing, the tiller is hitting the boom!

The more I read about this the more I want to get a cheap 300 (if there was such a thing ) and strap a kite and a T foil to it. At least it would look more elegant. It would be sooo damn fast as long as you could keep it upright Has anyone tried a kite on a 300 yet? Then again a FrankenBlaze with wider than standard racks (about the width of the racks on the Tomahawk) and a Musto sized kite would probably be easir to rig Edited by Inland sea |

Bert, Ithink you need to to talk to the IC guys about your boat! Being a forum, I'm not sure how serious you were about things like the toestraps running along the seat, and the like? Just incase you were, I'll just point out that it is a strap for pulling the seat across the boat when you tack. There are no toe straps!

The D-One had few (if any!) compromises in terms of the build and fittings. You had to admire the quality and engineering. For a carbon EVERYTHING boat, £10k (which is what I was told on the stand) seems like reasonable value, but not cheap (just take a moment to compare to a Moth for example). They've also had a lot of input from sometop sailors, (Richard Stenhouse for example), so you'd hope that it would be good to sail. Having sailed a single handed Assy, you quickly realise that it's safety first, racing second, and I guess that they've designed the D-one in a more traditional vien (as opposed to a 'skiff' design) so as to maintain a certain amount of user friendliness so that most folk can race it relatively easily. I quite liked it for what it was, but I think it's too big for me at 72kg. Was told they're aiming for a crew weight of 75-90kgs, but I reckon it's going to be more like 80-90kgs. Will watch with interest, but won't be buying one... |

Rupert sorry to correct you but your wrong.
The toe-straps on a canoe run out along the seat. When hiking you have your legs outside of the straps with your toes/feet underneath them pointing in. Yes they can be used to swing the seat across but its not their sole purpose. The idea is that you can secure yourself to the seat at any position inbd/outbd depending on the wind strength, so in medium conditions that dont require full on hiking you can sit in the middle of the seat with your feet strapped in. I suspect it is aimed at Olympic Silver medallists called Luca. If anyone else wants one that's nice... (Obviously that is a gross simplification, no one would put a boat into production without doing a bit of research).
As to the tiller hitting the boom, see if you ease the mainsheet, see how the mast straightens, see how the boom goes up in the air, see how much more space there is.... |

I stand corrected - on the sliding seat boats I've owned (ToY, Minisail) the strap was not for such a use, and I've not seen canoe sailors doing that, though I've seen canoe seats with cutouts as foot holds. Can you explain how you get your feet out again quickly enough if twisted in sideways? Edited by Rupert |
