Sailed a Laser Rainbow the other day. When they pulled the plug on the Taser, they tried to make a detuned Taser with standard Ali mast and bright sails as a teaching boat. Apparently, 6 were made. Rumour is the hulls were simple glass. Other rumour is they were 6 left over hulls.

Indeed - maybe one for Hartley too, if Ovis aren’t fussed. they’re used to applying lipstick to far more porcine looking craft than a Tasar... they even make Blazes look alright. so they could do very well potentially

I suspect the hurdle is not a willing builder but a designer willing to allow it ...

Well boats have drifted in the doldrums since the beginning of the seafaring age... why shouldn’t a dinghy designer join this exclusive martime club...

A few years before he departed this place Frank Bethwaite proposed a re-rigged and generally updated "Tasar Mk 2" but the class association turned it down.

Well there's a bunch of the bandits at our club, but it's only because they're cheap.. Oh and quite light so dragging their sorry arses over the shingle is easier than some dumb Bellend or Enterprise.

Ironic that fans of a boat ahead of its time didn't want another; they chose to stick with the one that had become current ...

Too true.

It's a pity really. I bought one a couple of years ago as a cheap, light, low maintenance club boat and it has been great in many ways - being able to take out non-sailing friends to race, easy singlehanding and just very quick and controllable in a blow.

Most crews is pretty unenthusiatic about the rotating mast and everyone hates the jib pole. A modern carbon rig with a dangly pole (and maybe a smidge more sail up top and less jib overlap) would make a better package imho.

And maybe call it the Icon, then watch as the PYAG conspire to marginalise it like they do most new stuff that has no representative member in their little cabal.
