So back on topic, what does the panel think is Jack Holts finest legacy... (and if you want to bash the EPS decision, probably best do it here)

The fact that so many people think him special for so many reasons and want to celebrate his centenary!

Well Mr Fuller old age and decrepitude bars me from this event but I would happily lend you my Solo. It is however not wood but petro chemical based. e.g inch thick fibreglass.

Minor correction to Ruperts original post. There will be a new Rondar Enterprise there.
Jacks best legacy has to be that forty fifty and even sixty years after they were first designed many of the classes are still being sailed, raced and enjoyed as major classes with top helms in them.
Hannah Mills started in a Mirror, First Merlin built by him, GP14, Solo, Enterprise and Cadet still thriving classes.
Close to my heart because I sailed one as a youf is the Hornet, not so popular now but in its day a class with a reputation on the water and off.
But the best legacy he has left is because he was not made welcome by the I14s as he was a "tradesman" was to make boats that could be made at home by the average man. Many GPs  & Hornets were home builds from kits etc and then of course the Mirror. Stitch and glue gave many of us a chance to build and then sail our own boat.
There is so much more.

Doh... I was still caught up in the last few postings on the GP14 thread - I was thinking Ent, but typing GP14... Age is a terrible thing!

I'd say Roger is right - his greatest gift was giving sailing to the masses - our greatest gift to his memory would be to keep it for the masses, not give it back to the elite.

Well there, at that point we can agree.

But that doesn't mean perpetuating the same designs he gave the world 50-60 years ago.
