When i was still sailing a 300, i sent a RS300 wanted press release to Y&Y to put on the website and mag.  it generated about 6 -7 un-used boats.  Perhaps the class could do it again??

Bryn, looks like a tidy boat that.  I assume you have the B rig?  If this is the case then like me you will want a stupid amount of kicker on.  This means getting the kicker strops which go over the mast rollers as short as possible.  Easiest was is to a some of the fancy 12 strand easy to splice stuff and put in nice big loops on the boom end.  Tighten the strops until you get at least 6-8" movement at the top of the mast to give you max travel.  When its 15knots (possibly easlier) expect to have the kicker maxed out, it makes a huge difference.

Thanks for the advice, I've been rummaging around on the internet and found a couple of tuning guide type documents. It's all in the kicker by the sound of it. I take it the mast is flexible enough to survive that sort of punnishment?

I'll have a look at the boat when I get it but I think it'll be fairly well set up, judging from how it looks and how well maintained it is.

I only wish the last time I had a 300 I knew just how much kicker was needed to really make the boat go, will be really interesting to see how much different the boat feels now im almost 2 stone heavier.

Just need to find a 300 now so I can come and join in with the fun.  If anyone knows of one that might come on to the market please let me know.  Its a shame that one of the reasons the boat is so good (old boats still being as fast) could almost be one of its downfalls in the long run as unlike most classes I have sailed in there in no need to move up to a newer boat to stay competative.

To be fair, RS will still make new ones in batches.  But they do not push the 300 and as such few new ones are sold.  Its a real shame as it is probably the best hiking single hander on the market.  The fleet are great and the competition is spot on.  I will own another one some day, may try and find one i haven't owned/pimped!!!
