Be careful what you say, or you will make yourself look a bit of a muppet.  Ronin was beating 49ers over the water, not just on handicap at the Weston skiff open a few years ago with Pete Barton driving and Roz Allen crewing. Have a look at the results if you want.

And whilst you're at it, don't use that windsurfer mast as an eighteen prod, it WILL break.

JimC

It was an article published in Y&Y written by you in the late 80's comparing the legendary Flat Stanley to the new upstart Jonny Fart Pants that got me hooked and led to me buying my first boat aged 15. An original Murray design Cherub 2610 Charlie Don't Surf!!

So I owe you and Flat Stanley a big thank you!

Just make sure you don't ask for a pint of Tinners.

You might get more than you bargained for

Can you only get the drink the same colour as the pants? I don't think I'd want a pint of ale there.....

A little longer than that: Guy and Alex did win the 1981, 1985, 1986, 1987 and 1988 Nationals in Flat Stanley, and picked up a 2nd and 3rd in two of the intervening ones. As I remember there were a fair few other events they took the glassware home from, especially when they were at their peak in the mid 80s. In the first season of the Bistros Guy and Alex were still on the pace, as you'll rememember, but then Guy bought that *awful* set of sails and Alex was less committed to sailing.

I don't have the old magazines any more to check - my collection went to the Class archives, but I wouldn't be suprised if there were a Stokes Bay Pursuit or a Pompey Perisher in the mix. FS is a fair bit different from a standard Murray, but I agree: very much evolutionary rather than revolutionary.
