I share your interest Doug, and I'd also be interested to know which camcorder you bought.  I have access to a professional quality video recorder, but its a proper tripod mounted jobby so only good for use on shore.

I have a JVC HDD camcorder that could be borrowed if you need a mobile one Nessa. It is not waterproof though....

We have NEC projectors at school (Where I work!) and a good one for portableness is the NEC NP200. It is filterless so no issues there but as has been mentioned the lamps do cost a lot, normally about £300 quid but do last approx 2000 hours. Do make sure you turn the projector off using the button on the projector and let it cool down before unplugging it. So Often people turn the thing off and then they pull the plug not realising its not like a tv/light etc that needs time to cool down.

Like anything what is new now will be old in a few months time.

Ill second the use of NEC projectors and also BENQ, we have quite a lot of these at the school I work at.  From experience I wouldn't recommend HP (I have a pile of broken ones behind me) the HP parts are  expensive and regularly they seem to break.

Aim for 4000+ lamp hours, 2000 ANSI Lumens or more and check the price of replacement lamps as these can often end up costing more than the projector itself.

The resolution the projector can handle is also another consideration, ideally for widescreen projection you will need one that can handle WXGA resolutions but you can get away with XGA resolutions it just often means changing a few screen settings on your laptop.

May I suggest: http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/SearchTools/item-details .asp?EdpNo=401212&CatId=1476   failing that there are many cheaper models available on the market which will do the job jsut fine...

We had that problem too, we bought 20 and 15 months later 15 of them were on the scrap pile. Just not up to the job. I did hear that HP withdrew from the projector market shortly after we purchased those!

Speaking to a mate who is in the trade he reckons you wont go far wrong with a BENQ MP623 cost around £400 to buy, lamps around £140 (all plus government robbery of course).

Dear mr tax man. I don't want a free house and I don't want all my bills paid
for me. I don't need a fancy pair of trainers, a quick slick phone or sky TV.
However, I DO want a projector. So how about I don't bother going to work
anymore, go get some girl knocked up and YOU put that projector in the
post. Sound reasonable?

Doug H

Ps. Forget putting it in the post, I'll never get it. Try E.D.S. or Interlink.
Thanks

Feeling sorry for vegans since it became the latest fad to claim you are one
