Oakley do prescription sunglasses just do a google search.

Oakley and do indeed do prescription sunglasses, but when I tried to get some they told me that they can't do any of the funky wraparound styles. The ones they could do were grim.

Why go for expensive Oakley's - I've never understood the obsession with them.  I go for cheaper wrap around style, such as Bloc and wear those.  That way I won't be too worried if I lose or break them.

As long as they offer the correct level of UV protection you should be fine.

Specsavers will do glasses buy one get one free... with the second pair with tinted lenses. I've had Quiksilver frames for the past 3 years and they've been great. Look good, pretty robust and at £125 (ish) for 2 pairs, you can't go wrong.

Try Adidas on this link. You can get a Perfomance Insert for a lot of the styles which is a prescription insert that fits behind the lens. I have used them for a number of years without problem.

Not a cheap option !

I want to do all I can (belatedly) to make sure the ruddy things don't get any bigger and go over the pupils, so sunnies are definately a must for me.  In fact I suspect I will be wearing them quite a lot, not just sailing, so they might as well be good ones.  I used to hate wearing specs, but now contacts are just too uncomfy.  Surgery can remove the growth, but there is no guarentee they won't grow back again.  I don't fancy having my eyeballs scraped anyway!

So the zap is the only option- I'm afraid going back to being a speccy ain't
something I'm prepared to live with, but if I had to; then it would be the two
for one offer on a pair of cheap frames and a lanyard.... the last pair of
prescription sunnies I bought were oakleys about 8 years ago. They set me
back the best part of a couple of hundred quid and then they got completely
canined on a laser boom, so I wouldn't waste money on them again.

Just be aware Laser eye surgery isn't always the be all and end all. Permenant dry eyes, scatter light from scarring etc. etc. can be some undesirable after effects which of course will be pointed out to you by any reputable agency. Interestingly an ophthalmic surgeon I know who does laser corrective surgery, still wears glasses and wouldn't get it done himself. Then again he totally relies on his vision to do his job...make your own mind up.

I'm a contact lens wearer and at the moment I'm sailing about 4 days a week.  I find the lenses good so far, but I've nearly always worn sunnies when sailing.  I've just been given a new pair from sunwise, who sponsor England Athletics, and they have three interchangeable lenses for varying conditions.  Even better, they have a little hole at the end of each arm for you to put string through.

I will report on performance as soon as we get some sun
the same, but different...

I had to have a growth caused by UV removed from my eyelid by micro surgery - nasty - so I wear decent sunglasses.

If you are near the city of London I highly recommend my opticians, who know a lot about specialist sunglasses. (not unfortunately I don't get commision, but he did give me a free bottle of glass cleaner after I spent £350 on new varifocal lenses )

really? i wear gas permeable contact lenses and the only water sport i have trouble is with swimming..(lost one or 2 from swimming) but yet to loose one while sailing, and i've got sweaty before/eyes gone watery, and they haven't fallen out. plus i dont find them a issue at all while sailing(get splashes but blink and its sorted)

also sunglasses wise, i perfer using womans sunglasses to the slim ones! as i find they give me a all round better view before a the frame is in the way
