I was actually there in september as I went camping nearby with the Mrs. I'd heard stories about these kayakers and thought they must be pretty nuts! The mountain biking locally is pretty good too.

As you can see, there isn't much of a run off at the bottom!

at the bottom? recirculating water etc..? especially iirc their travelling at
40mph when they hit the bottom!

Looks a bit like pitchpoling a cat on hitting the water.

Good stuff; I wonder if they would let us ride our mountain bikes down it?

I know this dam very well, and there is no way you'd get me going down it. Normally when the water is running you get a huge fountain coming off the bottom to aeriate the water in the river, and I wouldn't want to be down there when they switched it on. Tim the pictures you took are what it's normally like, I haven't seen it full for years, and I go up there at least once a year.

Check this out for a vitual tour

Yep, Welsh water couldn't have advertized better if it had been at Alton Towers! When living in Aberystwyth, the Uni canoe club were very into doing rather extreme things. You'd go down to the harbour in a gale, with white water everywhere, waves breaking twice the height of the harbour walls, and then you'd see a canoist paddling back in, having been out for a play. Mad, quite mad...

Surely they'd go faster in an albacore...

might be tricky getting under the lower bridge however.

Errr... it is Aberystwyth.  Stuck in the middle of Wales, about 2 hours from any major civilization will do that to do someone.  Surfing a canoe on the Trap is one thing.... a laser 2 is a whole different ball game.
