i have a easy loader and it does what it says on the packet however i wouldn't suggest placing a laser 2 on their as it isn't spreading the weight out very well and does raise the boat from the roof of the car by 5 inches.
just my 2p worth |

If you search on google or the like for "easiloader" or easy loader roofrack you will find a device for sliding a boat sideways onto a roof rack, certainly making it easy for 2, but still tricky for 1. A Laser 2 won't be competitive to race without the trapeze in anything above a force 3 or so, and the spinnaker is pretty big. Laser Fun New Wave has reefable main and a bolt on bowsprit for an asymmetric, Laser 3000 has a completely new rig and deck, but the same hull.

Don't do yourself down. They are most certainly not too expensive. You just need to keep plug'n away. Good idea to sell yours on and get another new one for yourself. |

Doesn't seem to be happy with much over about 16/17 stone on board. Good for parent and sub teens child or two early/mid teens. Seems a nice little boat if not overloaded. |

There's a great photo on SA with a FD on top of a Beetle and a bloke lying on the bow tying it down (at least, that's how I remember it). Maybe someone could post it here (I can't access SA). I'd have thought a Laser 2 would be a good bet, or Laser 3000. NS14s can go on the roof (I brought mine back from Germany on the roof of a Mondeo), and I'm looking at the possibility of importing some second hand ones from Oz, but currently they are only available new, so too expensive. I was just about to mention the Sailing Club thing. Where abouts are you are are you a member of a Sailing Club? Once you find somewhere local to you, many people will take you out in their boat, you only have to ask, most are friendly. Trailering or car topping your boat is normally dome when moving it from home to the club and back again each season or when you go and do Open Meetings/races at other sailing Clubs. The best thing is to have a go before making what could be sold to you as a boat not suitable for your needs, afterall, going to see a boat that you know nothing about will show to the seller and all he will do is try and answer the questions in his favour |

A Miracle is only a wee bit heavier than a Mirror but much faster without being a handful for novice sailers. However at 13 feet long it would still be a struggle for two people to easily lift it onto a car roof.... I would go for finding a sailing club with good boat storage if the mrs is so anti towing or lifting!

Thanks for the advice so far. The max roof load of the car is 75kg. Taser/National 12 - I not familar with either so will have to check them out. Is the Laser 2 competitive without the trapeze? What's the Max crew weight for a Feva? I was looking for a roof topable option because my wife thinks that towing anything makes you a gypsy, not an image that goes down well with her. Combine that with a somewhat negative idea of dinghies and I'd be stuck down the local club sailing summer evenings only. Although as someone has already highlighted, I'm not sure that asking her to help get the boat off the top of the car would be much better. I haven't given up hope yet so more any ideas still welcomed.

Fair enough on the type of boat ( although... it is hardly a young family exploring sort of boat in my opinion). My wife can struggle getting the Oppy on top of the car sometimes. They are 35kg. A Laser 2 has got to be 80kg. Remember your going to have to put it back on top of the car after you are knackered from sailing!
I would of thought a Dart 15 would be a better option. But the rebuild time every trip is going to be a right pain. Just buy a tow bar. And get a slightly cheaper boat if money's that tight. Then you can get anything you want rather than being restricted by getting it on the roof! heres something a long the lines of a Mirror... link Edited by Jack Sparrow |
