i currently have a billabong 5/4/3 steamer wet suit
and i have to say I've not been cold in it yet
in fact on several occasions i have overheated
it's an amazing piece of kit
and it's a surfing suit so it's very flexible

my best tip would be to have boots just a bit big for the winter.

then you can fit a thick pair of socks or better still some wet socks(made of neoprene) underneath and still wiggle your toes about. Nothing worse than tight pinched toes that you cant move about, they get colder quicker.

I use buffs and thermals while sailing, more commonly after i also got frozen solid at tiger, but tis always better to where too much than too little

Yep, we have buffs and we have hats. We also have new boots and winter gloves from the dingy show at the weekend. I did see in the O'three shop opposite the sailing academy that they have some balaclavas. We may pay them another visit over the weekend.

Ellistine, from your skiing gear you've probably got some decent headgear, remember you'll lose a lot of heat from your head (a fleece beanie hat is ideal) + some kind of neck wear in the form of a tube/buff kind of thing is quite handy  especially as the neck of a dry-suit can be a bit uncomfortable if you are not used to one,

hope that helps,

I have never been as cold in my Life as i was at the Tiger Trophy recently, i was wearing a full wetsuit, spray top 2 rash vest and wetsuit socks and boots, as well as a wooly hat and gloves.  another 5 mins in the ater and i could of been in serious trouble! I now have a dry suit as well as thermals  but chris is right your feet will still be cold!!  but a dry suit is i think still the best way to stay warm!

Ps Latex gloves doesn't work! I have tried it and if anything i felt colder !!!
