Is it Aluminium or plastic?

If aluminium put it in the freezer for a few hours the ali will contract more than the carbon and should then be able to get it out using the wood post method.

Even if it is plastic this may help make the plastic more brittle
If it doesn't break it's too heavy; if it does it wasn't built right

get a bigger hammer!

i like the freezer idea, but i doubt that a few degrees drop in temperature will make that much difference to a solid lump of aluminium.

Shouldn't take much contraction to loosen it off.

The bottom 18 inches of the mast comes off for reefing purposes, so it's in the deep freeze nestling amongst the fishfingers right now!

You'd be suprised how much difference it makes.  I've used this method before to 'shrink' much heavier pins that go through engine pistons and it def works.  Standard practice.
