If you're gold fleet at that level surely £800 for new foils is but a drop in the ocean?

From what I have heard this is class driven! The sailors were fed up of some sailors altering the foils, fairing and respraying.

The class actually wanted an earlier start date, I think it was originally March discussed at the last Worlds.

The CNC foils have an embosed logo and so will not be allowed to be altered. CNC tooling must be a vast improvment on the existing foils.

I also note on the ISAF website the 49er is one of a very few classes up for IHC certification.

Another reason to moan............

"Rule C.2.1 (p)
Amendment: Add new rule:
“For all Gold fleet and finals racing in Olympic, World, Continental Championships and
Grade 1 events after July 1st 2007 all foils shall have been manufactured from the CNC
moulds (identifiable by the embossed 49er logo).”

(Quoted from the 49er site)

Blatent plug for the Blaze (we all have our favorites!)  built by Rondar now, quality fittings, carbon boom, foamed throughout for lightness and long life, carbon+lightweight alloy wings, Elvstrom or North main, keep their price well, fast and fun with a long competitive life - list price £5,900 .... There are cheaper and there are more expensive out there but few that are as much fun.  And you'll might still have knees that work after a few years !!  see the Blaze association website  www.blaze-sailing.org

what everyones forgetting in this discussion about lasers is how much you would have to pay for new knees after sailing a laser if it wasnt for the NHS. if you add that on to the price of a laser it must get close to the price of a cat.

600 732, will call it Sticks and Stones when i get round to it.

Lasers are built in Polyester, CSM, with Laser's purchasing power I would imagine alot cheaper than I quoted above.

Cheap as chips, if you compare a Laser to anything it will always be over priced.

Look at a Solution, Epoxy foam sandwhich hull and a similar price to a Laser, that looks like good value for money.

I remember purchasing my first Laser new for £900, thats as about as much as I would want to pay for one now.
