Dave Nunn i think was the guy who i was emailing about the demo boat, don't hold me to that! The guy was active on the 600 yahoo group though, so easy enough to get hold of.

Mike -

No one in the fleet has sailed anything like it before, it's the one thing we've got in common. There are some guys who pick it up very quickly and challenge the pecking order, others that take longer but still enjoy the learning curve. And as Doug said, it's a great stepping stone to something more complex like a Musto.

If you are anywhere near Oxford SC, get yourself booked onto the class demo boat and see what you think

The 600 is actualy quite a good stepping stone for the mussy skiff (and a lot of other boats).  Cheap and will get you to grips with helming from the wire and the pig-headedness of a fully battoned main.

There are some relatively cheap contenders for sale - purportedly more stable than a 600 (having never sailed a 600 i cant comment) and extremely fun.

I have to say that i still manage to dunk the thing in owing to some infamiliarity/having the huge tiller extension in the way/the boat handling skills of a disphraxic(sp?) monkey  that has never seen a boat before. Havn't had a feeling in a boat to match it in straight lines in a decent breeze, i can't tack but i enjoy getting the point where you need to more than i have enjoyed sailing anything else yet although we are yet to take the Osprey out in anything that dad would call a real blow  .

Please buy a 600. Just purely for your own enjoyment! Ive sailed one no more than 5 times and of course ive gotten wet but ive loved every moment of it! They are one hell of a boat and if i wasnt buying a 14 then there would only really be one alternative for me one thinks!

The semi battened sail makes a lot of difference to taming it, but the key is the hull shape which is a lot more rounded on the 600

The 600 is a tad faster than the 29er so it is very fast for a single sailed boat. If sailing in a handicap fleet it is suposed to perform very well. The key is keeping the mast out of the wet stuff, when you can do that then you will begin to perform to the PY very quickly.
