Cirrus, you make some very good points in your post which I mostly agree with.  Here is a link to our upcoming regatta:

Thanks to all those highlighting events ....

The need for clubs to spread the word seems to have been increasingly forgotten in recent years - there are less of these events highlighted in the 'events' section of  this website than ever.  No real point in all the good occasional RYA 'boats on water' etc stuff if you then ignore the need to let others know who already want to come to race at your club.  You never know they might even join if they got to know it.    If you don't need/want visitors then why have 'open' events and then keep quiet about it ?

1) Post the event in the 'events section on this site.
2) Push out 'preview' news to same  say 2 weeks inadvance as a minimum ...
3) Email previous entrants .. you ask for our email addresses often enough.
4) Send emails and paper flyers to other clubs and CA's

Everyone is er 'too busy these days'... sorry not a  plausable excuse ... it is just like it ever was in reality imo.

I asked the very same question a while ago.. a lot of clubs either want to keep their events rather exclusive or are just really crap at marketing them  The vast majority of regatta/handicap weekend events I attend I discovered through word of mouth. A real shame as I'd like to do many more.

There is the calendar link up there ^^ and also a facebook page 'Dinghy & Multihul Events'. both poorly populated.

Glyn Charles Pursuit 12th August
Cock of the Harbour 26th August

There seems to be a real lack of place to advertise club regattas / open.

HISC put on an amazing club regatta this year, but turnout was low as it wasn't on any of the class circuits.

Just returned inland after several weeks on the salty stuff in 'big' boats in generally great conditons.  The local lake water level is 'right down' and the weed is 'right up' after weeks of sun and heat... The thought of  returning to dinghy 'racing' amongst newly revealed shallows and with excessive weed locally is a right turn off...

So what Open handicap events are available along the south coast on the coming weekends ?  The one or two day open or regatta sort of stuff is what I'm after ....  Ideas anyone ?  ... (and I'm sure I'm very far from alone on this one)

Help !
