I had a jib like that once and it came with a wire in it and you had another bit of string to put in place to stop the mast falling down when you de rigged, the next generation came with a permanent wire and clips, Alto mk 1 & 2.
Here's an idea get a bit of spectra kite(surfing) leader line and thread that up there if all you are doing is larking about. |

Hi Graham
Thats an option although we rigged it at lunchtime by just threading the forestay through it whilst rigging and it worked ok. Bit of a faff getting the forestay end fitting through all the loops but it worked ok so will probably do as a solution for now. Thanks to everyone for your help and ideas

Sorry but what am I missing, lots of nice pictures with a job thats clipped on.... I know how they clip on we have one that does that.... but the jib in question is different even though its from the same manufacturer and its this difference that I am questioning? |

Are there two loops at each hank point, or just one?
If two are they different lengths? |

There is just one loop, cleaning stitched with no sign that any thing else has been removed or broken.

Does sound suspiciously as if the jib has lost its clips. If its just a fun blasting boat then as Mr Fuller says why not run a piece of dyneema through the loops and try flying the jib separately from the forestay? A length of old halyard or something should do to try. If it sags off like crazy you'll have to rethink, but otherwise... You could even thread a few old style snap shackles through the line to keep the sail nearer the forestay, but that sounds like money unless you can find some, so it might be better to get clips put back.

If it has lost its clips some one did a fantastic job of unstitching the old webbing... and why then put a webbing loop on instead?
Its all so neat I would say that it has come out of teh factory like it. Its old so perhaps it was a first generation sail and they quickly switched to clips and so no one has ever seen one like this Ian

I thought it might be helpful. I won't bother in future. |

Probably right. Could be a cunning ruse to stop people leavving the rig tension on? I can't think of any clip you could easily add that wouldn't be a risk to the kite. What's it like to sail? Should aging mere mortals be looking to have a go? |
