Oh, and the worst sailing scene ever (can't comment on the film as I switched off I was so disgusted) the beginning of Charlie St Cloud, if that was its name.

that was a bucket of laughs that film Jack.... very, very well engineered bit of cinema, but christ, not one to watch with the mrs before heading off on the Vendee.  

For those who want a bit of Kidman kit-off, and some competitive sailing (of a sort), here's the full movie from 1986 'Windrider', courtesy of Youtube:

I watched Riddle of the Sands on telly at Christmas. There is some lovely footage of vintage yachts sailing, all proper stuff, but the film itself is pants. Way more boring than the book.

I'm pleased to see Swallows & Amazons listed; it gives me an excuse to plug www.sailransome.org again (the boat is visiting Norfolk/Suffolk for 2015).

Skyfall was on at Christmas too. There was a pretty Maxi slapped in there for effect, like the one in Casino Royale but it looked just as incongruous as all the other product placement.

Following the Bond theme- surely The Thomas Crown Affair - writing off that big multihull was only just about eclipsed by the technical fault of Brosnan winching a drum without a rope loaded on it.  


(in it's defence, one of the hottest actresses in Hollywood history gets her norks out, so not all bad... and they wear bowler hats)
