His LinkedIn profile is pretty sparse. As you say Ogilvy seems to be his main backer and employer.

This guy seems to be living some complete fantasy ... it says he narrowly missed out on competing at Weymouth 2012 ...

Olympian advises at Llanrwst business conference

Jan 24 2013 by Samantha Castle, North Wales Weekly News

AN OLYMPIC level sailor will be helping business sail at the third Free2Network Business Conference on Friday, February 1 in Llanrwst.

Laser class competitor Chris Russell will be sharing his story with over 200 businesses from across the region.

Chris narrowly missed out on competing at London 2012 but will share his journey to Rio 2016.

Chris will discuss his Olympic campaign experiences, how he and his team operate, and how there are lessons and skills which are transferable between the top sport and the business world.

The lessons and skills are certainly transferable - exaggeration, bullsh*t and downright lies...

I wonder what made James check this out - oh yeah, it's April Fool's day  - only this one seems to run all year around.

I saw it a few weeks ago but thought the comedy value had more impact posting it today.

I say comedy value, but tbh, it's verging on fraud isn't it?

It certain;y looks like obtaining goods and services under false pretences ...

Fraud is a deception deliberately practiced in order to secure unfair or unlawful gain (adjectival form fraudulent; to defraud is the verb).[1] As a legal construct, fraud is both a civil wrong (i.e., a fraud victim may sue the fraud perpetrator to avoid the fraud and/or recover monetary compensation) and a criminal wrong (i.e., a fraud perpetrator may be prosecuted and imprisoned by governmental authorities). Defrauding people or organizations of money or valuables is the usual purpose of fraud, but it sometimes instead involves obtaining benefits without actually depriving anyone of money or valuables, such as obtaining a drivers license by way of false statements made in an application for the same.[2]

Has this guy got any results to back up these claims?

I'm not even clear if he is after the GBR or IRL slot ...

The only "result" I could find with a quick google was a 104th (no show) sailing as GBR

124th here (no show I guess) entered as IRL

Does not look like a medal hopeful ...

I guess that as he was taking part in the events where people get selected for the Olympics, and sailing an Olympic class, he was closer to going than I was, but I'm not sure "narrowly" comes into it. Or were Ireland really short of male sailors?

and here is the moral dilemma - if I see someone having their pocket picked, I'd feel that I ought to intervene. So what's the difference here? The lesson tho, seems to me, if you are going to perpetrate a con, go large.

The weasel defence is perhaps that people are helping him with his 'journey' and they will gain profile and publicity as a consequence. Failing to get to compete for a medal is probably neither here nor there - after all how many of the great unwashed could today name any one of our four 2012 470 medalists? I'd argue that, to those in the know at least, they have actually marked themselves out as, err, marks, which is not exactly good publicity is it?

BTW, anyone want to buy Tower Bridge from me? Don't tell anyone, but Boris asked me to flog it for him because it's in the way of the flight path to his new airport...
