Ok, for those that asked, here are some pictures, a
diagram and an explanation of my mainsheet takeup.

1:

The mainsheet comes from the block and out to a clip on my harness.
The clip is tied to my P&B harness through the eyelet holes with a bit of
elastic.

There is also a loop of elastic tied around the the mainsheet which is
the bit i clip onto. This helps the rope run through better, and makes
sure the stopper knot doesnt get stuck.

2:

The rope then runs from my harness back to a plastic ring which i have
lashed to the spring under the block.

04022010210.jpg">

3:

The rope runs from the ring at the block to a second plastic ring which
is attached to the fitting on the rudder post thing.

As you can see in the next picture, i have inserted a length of elastic
into the end of the rope. This is easy with swiftcord cos it has a sortof
empty space inside the braid, so it can be opened up and the elastic just
pushes in. I just did a small bit of whipping on the end to stop the elastic
pulling out.

04022010211.jpg">

4:

The end of the elastic then ties to something in the vacinity of the
mainsheet block. This keeps all the ropes centered and tidy.

04022010212.jpg">

At the moment i have tied the elastic back onto the first ring, but i
havent found the best point and length of elastic to get the best takeup.
How it is at the moment is alright but there is still a bit of slack dangling
near the water when im block to block upwind. There is enough taken
back into the boat to stop the excess being swept out the back or round
the corner of the rack (that normally ends in capsize when you go to let
the main out and it is caught on the corner of the rack)

I might put a longer bit of elastic on and tie it on further forward so
that there is more stretch but with more slack rope being pulled in.

I will perfect it soon hopefully.

Oh and here is the diagram if the pictures arent that clear. Sorry it is
the opposite way round to the pictures!

Hope this helps!

. I'm glad you lot like it though.

it's 'Pimp Club' Salty... of course we like it, you can't go wrong...

'Bimble Club' on the other hand are a miserable bunch of sods who would
probably find fault with nearly all of your modifications and get all anal
about class rules... t**ts.

That's the "anti bimble" club. True members of "Bimble Club" do frown upon the ostentatious use of colour matched ropes and see no need for custom decals, but do appreciate a well designed modifaction. True acolytes of bimbling always have a spare battery for their power drill charged and ready.

I'm going the club tomorrow so I'll take a few pics of it and anything
else anyone wants. I tried it out on the boat for the first time this
weekend and it works really well. I haven't prfected the elastic length
yet though. I may have to use a bigger ring and with longer elastic to
get more of the slack taken up. I'm glad you lot like it though. And this
was one of my own ideas. If anyone else wants a closer look at the
pimps on my boat then it will be at grafham for the winter champs on
the 13th/14th and it will be on the 600 class stand at the dinghy show
in march

wasn't on mine either... bit of bungey tapered into the end and tied off
around the mainsheet block... no cleat or riser to get in the way though.

Same here, it's the same length and type but for some reason I spend half my time trying to retrieve it from behind the boat, it even gets sucked out of the little gap between the hull and the transom bar. That takeaway system is worth it just for pimp value though so I'll give it a whirl.
