Nah - there are plenty of good dinghy sailors who are very capable on windsurfers but I don't know many who go the other way ...

Most guys who I have seen get bored of windsurfing find an new natural home sailing cats ...

OOOOOOO! i think not! You'll all lose to the kite-boarders for sure!  10 times better than a windsurfer could ever be!!    kite-surfers have about twice the sail area, and about half the board.......you havn't got a chance!!!!!

... but they are not very good round a course - just in a straight line that suits them.

Kite surfers

I am a Kite Surfer, have been for 6 years.

Nothing a kite can do, other than jump a bit higher

Than a board can do faster. Up wind down wind any which way you like.

Kiting is still young, but developing at a tremendous rate. The kites are
becoming more efficient by the year, but just as the average windsurfer who
sails a short board wouldn't have a clue about rounding the cans, neither
have kitesurfers, they, in the evolutionary scale, are way down the food
chain with the cats and certain Musto Skiff riders.

Is this the same musto skiff sailor that is so far down the evolutionary scale that he can actually manage to sail the boat in question? I think i recall that you TRIED to sail a Musto yet FAILED. It takes skill and brains to sail a Musto fast... where does that leave you?

It's strange the dilemmas that old age brings on, eh Graham and, the confusion of buying a boat in later life comes to many. Did you rule out buying a boat with a keel before you chose the RS500?

But I suppose at a certain time of life one has to consider to comfort and security of sitting down over standing up and, despite the loss of excitement it is easier on the joints. But, I suppose there is something to be said to you sailing with a crew, despite you and Avery having a combined age of over a hundred!

However, you'll be pleased to hear that the Musto fleet is not just the preserve of the young, fit and talented, as there are a number of sailors well over 50 like you who still sail the boat really well - so all is not yet lost on you. Afterall, everyclass needs a grandfather figure and, I'm sure that with some commitment to training we could have transformed you from a blunt instrument back into a precision tool.

I can't wait to to hear of developments towards the multi-craft race to the Varne and back you mooted earlier and, having sailed the Musto, an F18 cat and windsurfed over the last month, that just leaves me to dig out my old Peter Powell stunt kite and brush up on my manouvers!

I starting to think that a trip down to Hythe to see you and Avery in action is in order, as my new camcorder should provide some useful footage to post on the forum, so others can follow your progress and journey up or down the the dinghy food chain.
