49er does indeed have an autorachet on the boom, and as pointed out you have a crew to play with it upwind and downwind the crew has the kite.
Toby is of course right about maintaining slot shape, but then your slot is a mess anyway mid gybe, so having the main cleated wont cost you much. On the Musto Skiffs and RS700s we try to take the main over with us in the tiller hand, but until its seriously windy most will leave it in the cleat, just carrying the tail so that we can adjust once on the new tack. In the 100 that wont be too much of an issue as you'll be able to reach the tail if you drop the mainsheet in the boat. |

I've modded a ronstan ratchet+ cleat for my boat.
Off-boom sheeting, and the sheet goes in the cleat with a flip when you need it, normally just the ratchet. |

Oh, er Misses.......don't get your boxers in a twist !
Promise definately not to mention again on this forum - the AC, drag curves, mainsheet loads, ratchets on 49ers, what I'm having for tea tonight, Eastenders etc. etc........!!!! Seriously though no one has ventured an answer to my earlier post about Class Rules or Class Association constitution ? Rule 3.8.99 - Don't upset Grumpfs !!!!! or he will set that dog on you (nice dog though) ! Every kid I see at the Dinghy Show is going to be told to go to a certain action sports stand with the request "got any stickers"?! |

I heard from a 'reliable source' that either option would be allowed. One of the reasons 'off the boom' sheeting is banned in other classes (dare I mention it - down doggy) is to encorage the possibility of 'normal blokes' being able to helm say a 500 or an 800. It effectively stop the situation where a miniscule helm can just pass the main to a big crew - Not applicable to us . Shouldn't TT be answering this - as Class chaiman and rules / technical rep, youd expect he'd know
As I'm posting - my 49er has a ratchet on main and so does my 29er - - - runs for cover. |

Chris C I expect the class rules will be the generic RS rules, used by the entire 'family' which are then developed to reflect needs of each class. You can see them on the RS classes website.
