I had one of these many years ago (K503) my sail went all the way to the top of the mast, I recall it was a pretty nice wee boat to sail, it had a decent sized spinaker.

Another vintage Canoe: the photo is from Andrew Eastwood's Canoe History, but there's no context. A little research suggests the helm could be Ken Davis and the period around 1969-1971. It does show the distinctive "rams horn" curved tiller extensions Canoes used to have in those days. Nothing new about double tiller extensions! By the look of things that's a boomed self taking jib too. But the amazing boom and transom sheeting! The canoes must have been a considerable challenge to sail in those days, very much easier now. That's an early Nethercott hull, and this is the time when the Canoes adopted the Nethercott shape as a One design hull shape (still used on the kite fitted boats), although it was never quite universal and there always seemed to be a grandfathered boat or two about.

Johan Elfström from Sweden at the 2011 Canoe worlds. I liked the pic without the sail number in rather more so I cheated! Same design and rules as 96, but 40 years refinement. The Swedish sailors were responsible for a lot of that development.
