We've decided to finish the season in an old Enterprise, just for a bit of variety and to see how we get on in an all hiking boat. Saturday I sorted the rig out to get the right prebend and rake, I didn't want to go for high Tension (old boat) so a bit of a compromise.....Sunday just before the race we were hoisting the main when the highfield lever pulled out of the mast (b*stard thing) so I cleated the halyard into the downhaul cleat instead, I'd have to do without any real tension.....Now running late and not thinking we pulled the boat round to launch just as a gust hit, result: boat blew off the trolley, mainsheet caught on something (the gunwhale slung trolley on the L 2 is much more forgiving)...

.....Finally on the water and boat is going like a turd, too much rake, not enough tension and a high level of incompetence. Several races later and after a lot of swearing I now have bruised shins from the bloody center board case and a bruised back from sitting in and bashing my back on the grab rails.......Also considerable glee displayed from some as we struggled.

......is it worth getting out of bed next Sunday, I probably will, what a masochist.

Harrumph another week another crap sail..

Wind shifted course too short, then wind disappeared, had to rake back the rudder and scull home.

Went from 2nd to last as the wind dropped.

I can't deny that the cockpit is very spacious and the beam is extra WIDE. Similarly, a weight combination of 18 to 24 stone sound about right. As for the comfortable and stable platform, I'm not so sure...

on Sunday, we had light NNE wind and Dave the Vibe man decided to take a lighter crew to enter his first race. He's a highly experienced helm, by the way, started sailing long before I was born, and is/was planning to take the grandkids on the famous Vibe.
Anyway, after a capsize-free race with spinnaker, Ellie the crew admitted she wasn't impressed with the boat either. She's been crewing all sorts of boats in the past, including RS200 and Fevas. She likes the Feva better. She also found the boat rocky, so it's not just me and my disastrous sailing skills.

I'm the heavy weather crew so I'll let you know how it goes in a blow. Big smile

Spotted Mirabaud foiling about in Portland Harbour today. Now that looks a frustrating boat to sail!

Looking at the gallery- I guess the event rather attracts a lot of "odd" creations...

It certainly does that, everyone should do speed week once in their life, it's an amazing celebration of English eccentricity.
