Someone will probably know more about this pic than me but from what i gather, the 600 was entered to the olympic trials some years ago, about the same time that the musto did aswell and upone seeing the musto a while before the trials decided to chuck a kite on the 600.  Sadly as the hull shape wasnt designed to have a kite on the front, the boat didnt perform well and also took away some of the merits of the 600 design. 
Thats what ive heard, if im completely wrong please DO correct me!

Thats the story ive heard... a last ditch attempt to match up to the musto that didnt work out. They then went back and based the 700 on the 800 design to make it more managable.

As far as im aware yes its a real picture, i linched it from the 600 yahoo groups files.  Theres one more pic but its still light winds and not very good quality, give me a few mins and i'l find it and chuck it up. 

And as for photoshop....HA!! It took me 5 attempts to load that pic up, photoshop is a far away dream for me!

That's really interesting. Are there any more pics? Or atleast higher-res pics? Who did it?

I've been thinking about doing something similiar, but with an Int.Canoe sized kite. Because I agree with Fergus, that does look a little grily.

Side note: That picture is real, isn't it? No chance of it being a photoshop jobby? Just the spinnaker pole, and leech of the main look a little bit "wrong". And the numbers on the sail don't look quite in the right place.

I dont know how its attached but im assuming yes its fixed as there really isnt anywhere in the 600 for it to retract to. 

Edit:  and i dont know how big the kite is either.
