I was thinking that if boats float higher in the Med and lower in the Atlantic, then when sailors wearing more gear on boats in the Atlantic then this will only exagerate the problem rather than balancing it out.

Bananas are unlucky on boats, why a gas given off by them starts to spoil all other fruit, and therefore the cargo is waste by the time the boat got to port.

To test this get a banana put it in a paper bag with another bit of fruit and them store as normal for about three days.
