I'm being late for the start as usual. Here's the club Comet duo on the jetty.

The main sail is roughly Albacore sized, but the jib much bigger. There is a trapeze to try and hold it all flat!

Uffa's design brief was for the fastest 14 foot waterline boat around. I've no idea whether it was, but must have been close at the time, at least in UK waters.

Hell, how many more old hulks I've never heard of are there out there?

It really is like zombieism, all these dead but 'undead' classes of long forgotten or in my case never even heard of boats, do they even have a yardstick? How would they race, or is there a big thick dusty book, held by the official CVDRA keeper of the records with handicaps like 120, 99 etc and a formula to convert them?

The big thick dusty book is a laptop owned by patj, supported by genuine big thick dusty books on my bookshelf, and the formula is aaa x 1.2 x 9.46 = bbbb! Gives a starting point, anyway, given that handicaps aren't fixed.

Given you sail what amounts to a slightly younger zombie (where were you this weekend? You weren't at one of the few EPS Open meetings) I'm not sure what your complaint is? If it is the wood thing again, then go look at the science of it all - wood is better for boat building than everything bar fairly modern foam sandwich - far stiffer, lighter and more long lasting than GRP construction. Yes, you have to look after it, but that applies to GRP, too, or you end up with a soggy, broken mess.
