Yep. heading west too, although haemorraging places to do it.  Hopefully it will pay in the long run.

Well I'm pleased to say I've been gaining places for the past 48 hours steadily.
For you that haven't seen it the week 1 video is up, and it's a cracker! http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?feature=plcp&v=DJSEQ673PZk&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DDJSEQ673PZk%26feature%3Dplcp&gl=GB

You definitely have doubts when you see your position dropping, but as I proved yesterday and overnight, you do get rewarded. It's going to be difficult to time the gybe as there is no real wind shift to go on. Reading Mike Goldings report he has the same problem in a similar situation - you just need to make the decision.

I reckon the placings are based on the rh of the 2 big orange lines down the middle of the ocean and how far south you are on that line.

My current plan is to now follow the lh one to Fernando de Noronha then hopefully go east again Confused

Not sure rb_stretch was a bit to the west of me this morning and closer to that line than me and almost level but possibly slightly South of me but was behind in places.

Well going West has so far cost me 120k places, so quite frankly the placings are rubbish for judging progress. Maybe when we are in the southern ocean they might make more sense.

Still going west as well, to make sure that I can clear the cape verde islands. Harder to judge this one as the winds will get lighter as we turn south and will therefore harden up the sailing angles ( if these boats perform like real ones that is).

Half the fun of the game seems to be learning how the boats work, but I can't say that I actually know what I'm doing just yet...if only we had polars for the boats!!

Blimey, John having chatted to you this morning at the club, you gave no indication of doing this.

Unfortunately I find myself heading South, even though I want to go west. To go west I'd have to be sailing WNW and dont really want to have to go N at all.

120k places lost since yesterday evening - is that a record?  I still think West will pay in the long run.

I am less sure now, we are all heading into a large hole tuesday and the answer will probably be which side the wind fills in from first.......probably the opposite of where you want it to!

Is Bootscooter intending to cross or keep going down the coast?

was west-of-rhum, now working towards east-of-rhum line, picking up places as I go... can see Dougal going way left.... hhhmm, not so sure about that.. think I will weave through, or just to the east of the cape-verde islands
