Sorry for the ramblings.... I thought about it now!
I used this sytem below but instead of the hook, i had a line through the eye of sail onto the Frankenstein bolt
![]() This giving 6:1? (i think) so if i wanted to pull 3cm of cunno on i would need 18cm travel! no wonder it was bottoming out. I think the most you can have would be 4:1 to stop you hitting the deck with the block on control lines.
Or have i got it all wrong

Oh dear - that really is a tragedy. In my Laser days I always thought that the Supernova somehow managed to be slower on all points of sailing in all winds ?

not in my experience at our club.
the only point of sailing that the laser is faster, seems to be dead down wind. due to the fact you can fly the sail forward of the mast. on the other hand, it might just be that the best supernova sailors are better than the best laser sailors at our club at the moment! ![]() |

but we don't sail the RS100 dead downwind!
why would you want to (apart possibly for a few seconds when near a mark)?

i know, but rich was comparing a supernova to a laser, not to a rs100. or perhaps i got that wrong.
![]() no one would ever sail a rs100 at our tiny little puddle. |

No I was only comparing a Laser to a Supernova.
For something designed 25 yearsa after the Laser, and with a modern fully battened rig, I was just amazed that it seemed no faster.
I sailed against some apparently decent sailors in Supernovas in my Laser and never saw them again after the start. Perhas they werent that great ?
My main point was really that if you are losing to a Supernova (or even a Laser) in an RS100 (regardless of rig size) perhaps the problem lies elswhere than with the boats ?

if the rs100 refuses to hike then it's not out of the question that an solo will beat it...
back to genuine 100 issues; after pondering the cunningham over the winter i've ended up doing the same as clive and just rerouted the lines inside the gooseneck to give better travel. i forgot to do it at the steve nick and it's been sub-10kts on the other trips out since. purchase has never been that much of an issue and the amount of travel only needs to be a bit more than "standard" so hopefully this will sort it.
