I think once there is a bit of chop, this will be harder to sail than an RS600.
The 600 is relatively easy to cope with when the waves start washing the foredeck.
The critical thing in real life will be how does it handle when the water is not dead flat, and that's not amenable to model experiements or tank testing.
Bethwaite's books have all the stuff on tank testing in smooth water, which is important for light weather performance.
Once the breeze is up, it's trial, error and logical progression from what works already.
If you want the stability of two hulls, just say so, cats are not that bad really!
A light dart 15 with a kite could be a lot of fun IMHO.

+1.... or just simply get a Vortex, ticks all the boxes really and achieves everything the V-Twin is trying to already.

The concept looks quite cool but I cannot understand how it differs from  a vortex also??

A Reminder;

Vortex's trip, don't like waves and have Centreboards, two of them last count, and you can't buy them anymore.

CATs are the spawn of Satan and immediately designate their owners as low I.Q. Wink

Has anyone ever seen anyone out on the ocean in a 600 in a force five, and live to tell the tale?

Being no athlete and the wrong side of 45....
I found the difficulty in learning the 600 was not so much coping with it on the ocean, but getting to and from open water, trying to short tack up a narrow channel in F4.
If I could have  95% of the the performance and have a 'cruising mode' or 'limp home mode' even, I'd be interested.
Something you can depower and sail it in confined spaces as if it were a Solo.

Yachts do it - its called reefing. If you could work out a way of reefing the main while out on the trapeze, you'd be onto a winner!

No, I don't think it's just about reefing.
The 600 has the ability to reef.
It also seems to me to have some handling characteristics that make it more difficult to short tack or sail in very shifty conditions.
Reefing did not help much.
I don't think this is just about the size of the rig, it's also about how the CofE and the CLR move at low speeds. And other subleties, I'm sure.
It's also about the damn thing having no mass to keep it moving forwards of course!

I enjoyed owning a 600 for a while, but it needed more commitment than I wanted to give it as my two handed efforts worked out better than expected, so I did not have the hours afloat with it.

I think GRF is aiming to reduce the learning curve.
That's a good aim IMHO

Koops, grumpf knows he needs a contender really, and I have offered to let him try mine on many occasions.  We just have to give him time to come to terms with his inner, contender sailing self.

@rs400, I had to navigate the contender through some hellish narrow channels to get to the sailing area at the dutch nationals, so I know exactly what you mean.  Reefing would not have helped.
the same, but different...
