That was exhausting just watching that TT. Well done.

The recovery with the kite was interesting. Just
releasing the halyard and then getting it back in the
sock when upright. I've not seen that before. Would that
work on double hander? Seems easier than the Mrs trying
to retrieve the kite from the water while I shout
'encouragement' from the plate

Thanks for putting up the video.... it  shows that getting in after a wet capsize can be very difficult in Big Wind. The section where you climbed in over the back was in lightish breeze, the boat tacked on you, you had to hold on to the gunwale to stop it capsizing again as it span around away from the wind, it lifted you up slightly. After swapping sides. Imagine doing that in a sea way with big wind and gusts. Quite a tall order. Well certainly in my experience.

So now whilst I'm on, anyone else had problems on a tight reach?

Grumpfs. To quote Paul Goodison (I think) .....Ease, Hike, Trim !

Really important to keep on a bit of windward heel on (definately not any
leeward heel, which is seriously not good), hike hard and just let the sheet
ride out to keep it flat. Did one race, which due to a big windshift turned into
two mile long close fetches and a short run in 20k breeze with the 10.2 -
f'in hard work neither planing or pointing, just a long long slog all the time
easing to keep the windward rail down and hiking to keep her moving over
the waves.

You do if there are pebbles in it, or next time you change the mast it
doesn't seat properly and it was that blocked poking from both ends took
quite a while.

Not with the kite, just the one sail, an 8.4.

It might be wave related and or wind under the wing, or the rig racked back to
far,(set on 6th hole ) or just plain old me failing to hike out hard enough at
this stage(other problem being windward capsize or being knocked in by the wave),
but I'd be interested to hear any other experiences of silly capsizes from
a beam reach position. (A new one on me, I generally only go in on gybes and it
happened twice in not really that windy conditions (14-16kts))

I need to spend more time out in wind over a four and not too much of it spent
trying to get back into the bloody thing..

Hi Simon yes you can and that is what I did when I first tried it out, I had
a spare double block so put that on but you then need a twisted shackle
so actually using the existing block is probably better anyway. I have
actually rethreaded / replaced my control lines but you can easily unpick
the splice and redo rather than cutting. The Chinook block doesn't have
ball races and also probably insn't intended to deal with this sort of
loading (windsurfer outhaul is very lightly loaded) so I am toying with
using micro ball bearing blocks either side of the cringle with a dyneema
shackle to join them - you need to be able to easily tie and untie this to
remove the sail so it needs to be a loop and stopper knot arrangement.

A couple of weeks ago I posted a query about vast amounts of water coming in through the slot gasket when reaching with the kite up. Some of you posted answers, thankyou. I now have the answer which may prevent others having the same problem:- make sure you retract the centreboard FULLY when leaving the boat on the trolley i.e. after sailing, failure to do so distorts the slot gasket leaving a gaping slit even when the board is fully down next time you sail, its not permanent and retracting the board allows the mylar to recover to its flat condition, that problem for me no longer exists, well until I forget to pull the C/B up again  doh!

Hi Dave,

Yes, those are the ones on my boat. Pretty sure they are tied on but will
check tomorrow evening.

Have you got these on your boat ?

Personally I like the Ronstan Orbit Ratchet so might swap over with the ones
on my Vortex at some point.
