Are you sure about the 40m Accuracy. I am sure I read somewhere that they were now accurate to around 10m - Well my Garmin keeps telling me this ! |

Just did some looking, It was 40 meters but GPS 'improved' their sevice and now does allow up to 10 meter accuracy on the free band, Gallilao will still be more than 20 times more accurate than that (the servive they will be supplying to airports is accurate to less than 5cm - they can park the planes on autopilot with that!!)

The think the accuracy og GPS really depends on
who the USA are at war with at the present moment. They have been known to deliberately make it wrong (so the enemy drive off a cliff), whilst they still get the ultra accurate information... Wonder if they'd ever do that to opposition sailing teams in off shore sailing!! |

I think you have been reading a little too much fiction.... There is a published accuracy of 10m. It will not be worse than this - if the US Army turned it down to (say) 500m we would have supertankers filling up the beaches !!!!!!! |

Hmmmm. Good point - but in serious world war I'm
sure they would - no doubt the American supertankers would be fine, and the enemy tankers 'fill the beaches' - after all we would "fight them on the beaches" as the big man said... |

having worked on and off in a local chandlery, i can safely say that someone has been wildly mislead here, the new wrist mounted GPS are very very VERY accurate, up to sppeds around 30 knots when it falls off slightly, and have been widely used around the club with an accurancy found to be within 2 meters, the average being 4 but never more than 7!!!! and as for the magellan meridian series, they are constantly accurste WITHIN 3 meters!!!!! so you may wish to dismiss anything else that source has published as fluen babble
