The saga will blow over, HISC will maybe reflect a bit, life will go on for us sailors. July will soon be here when, we hope, the shackles will be less shackled

C'mon children.  ;-)

"The Law" could never take into account all the various nuances for each and every sport, as it was laid down in a very short time without the usual due consideration required for construct - but we all know what the intent was. So reverting to the letter of the law as interpretation was always bound to fail and cause confusion.

HISC pushed the boundaries a bit far IMHO, even if they can - weakly - justify it. Thats fine.  Being a rebel was always my achilles heel too. Its them thats in the spotlight, not you or me.

Indeed.  No doubt there are sailing committees across the UK being asked by their members "If HISC did it, why cant we?"

My own club - 5 slipways.  Maximum 6 people on each slipway at a time.
You can adhoc organise whatever racing you want on the water within the 6 people rules.

I think they've taken it as far as they can within the rules.

If HISC's local constabulary have ignored them, that doesn't mean ours would.  Would it result in a criminal record? Probably not. My local cops said they'd provide advice and only taking enforcement action if advice ignored.   Would I want to take a chance?  No.

That’s alright.  One or two on here like to paint me as a curtain twitching kill-joy living in fear.  In fact, all I have done is question whether organised races are allowed.

As the great majority of clubs are not yet organising races suggests to me that most committees think it a. isn’t allowed or b. isn’t sensible.  There is nothing particularly unique about HISC, Shustoke or South Cerney that would facilitate safer racing at those venues.  It is those clubs that are in the minority.  To question their actions is legitimate.

A while back I decided to just ignore them and get on with my racing because frankly - I do have access to really senior people involved in writing the laws your discussing and I can assure you that there is zero chance that the police will be locking anyone up for sailing!

Whilst I agree with what you say about a vocal minority, and I disagreed fervently with A2Z on whether sailing was or should be allowed, I think on this one he is right. I think Hayling have jumped the gun, and we have at least one Hayling member struggling to justify what they did - sorry guys, you got it wrong and you've been called out by people you must have known would be watching. This isn't the first error in this crisis and out won't be the last.

It doesn't bother me if HISC cause the harbour council to specifically ban dinghy racing in Chichester Harbour, but I can think of plenty of other people who will be none too pleased.

I would imagine most people in sailing know senior people, speaking for myself, I can't recall talking to anyone about what they do for a living, I would imagine most of the people at my club have a better job than me and probably more money, but, I haven't felt that they treat me any differently than rest of members, this for me is the most attractive feature of sailing.
