I too have a soft spot for the Enterprise and the things that make it such a joy in the light stuff are exactly the things that make it a handful offwind in a blow. No need to modernise IMHO apart from the obvious stuff that was done years ago like alloy masts and FRP hulls. I would have voted against the spinnaker for class racing too. The Enterprise fills a niche that boats like the Icon and Tasar tried to take on and is still far more popular and common than with of them.

that's a pretty fair assessment  of the Ent

the one  thing about the Ent  that i have always disliked is  the deck stepped  mast ,  for a 'solid' rig   a deck stepped  mast  just makes  the  actual process of rigging rather harder and fraught  than a  keel stepped  mast.

The only thing I don't like is when you capsize and can't get the water out.

Very, very nice boat the Tasar and a great shame it never took off in the UK.  I've still got the O&M manual that came with mine.  Really enjoyed sailing it with my kids as it was well mannered and dead easy to sail with a youngster or novice crew.  The rotating rig was a delight.  It was pretty quick for a two sail boat and I see its current PY is 1015 which makes it quicker than a raft of boats like the Scorpion, Lark, GP14, RS200 etc and certainly much quicker than an Ent.  It's even quicker than a Blaze with all its scaffolding outriggers! I remember it was a bit sticky in the light stuff but get your weight forward and tilt the hull over a bit and it went ok.

40 boats at the nationals at HISC, worlds here next year. I wouldn't say it's doing too bad!

I think on a very enclosed venue an Ent is still very well suited. Light shifty winds and roll tacking your way around a gravel pit is it's thing. But can also be taken out on the sea.

Tasar sticks quite a bit in the light, and I think the hard chine and wide transom, plus having to tack the mast, make it a little less appealing for the really restricted venues. But, above 10 knots, a very efficient boat around a course.

Disagree, you can't be doing it right.

If you look at the nationals attendance table for 2 person boats with no kite you will find Tasar top.

Plus it is an International class ...makes it the best in that category IMHO.

If it had a European builder like Ovi it would be even bigger.

Yes, but sail numbers don't always track the number of boats build in SMOD classes ...

I am sure the L2 was numerous but 10000+?

Then buy a Rondar Mk3, not quite self draining maybe but a big improvement on trad designs (but, apparently there are trade offs with the higher cockpit floor).

According to the CA, the first L2 sold was numbered 450 (in 1979), @10500 was the first boat sold in 2000. I don't suppose they'll have sold that many since but it still adds up to 10k+ boats worldwide.
