Made 30k overnight as further west than most (and still behind). Difficult to get a good angle at the moment as wind is pretty much due north just now, if it drops will have to start sailing more angles I think.

Thanks.  It looks like Mongrel has come to join us in island dodging!  I am planning to keep heading south today cracked off enough to keep speed, and rely on the forecast wind shift to take me west.

I hope none of you were run down by virtual trawlers in the night?

Actually, is it possible to log on as a fishing boat, and go hunting Vendee boats? Evil Smile

That was my other plan, but decided I need to get some different wind if I'm going to pull back that 20k places. Also didn't want to be messing about with the Canaries. My provaricating on how to dodge Madeira cost me many miles, so want the freedom pick the best course.

Haven't had that since I started, I don't think I've even had the Spinnaker out yet.

As colregs say that a sailing boat must give way to a boat engaged in fishing isn't the boot rather on the other foot? I should say its sailing boats running down trawlers, not vice versa. I wonder what will happen if the bowsprit on some vendee boat with the skipper asleep brains a fisherman going about his business? There would be no doubt at all where the liability lay.

Lucky this lot are only doing it on line - imagine 100,000 boats with their skippers fast asleep all charging down the Atlantic in real life!

It is feeling pretty lonely on the good ship simong out in the west, I just gybed south, hopefully I will get good wind to get a good doldrums crossing and only then will I start improving on my current 247,000th position.

1 week in 4 boats down, could be all over by the end of November.
Like some other things - sailing is more enjoyable when you do it with someone else
