Medway Maniac and I had an online conversation recently about a hull with lines like this one. He kind of talked me out of it but i still think that this has something going for it. Ian

Now you have got me, West Ham? W.T.F is that? Some sort of none communist bloc pig cured and smoked?
Why would anyone have any management or design issues about that? You're going to have to enlighten the ensemble about that analogy, as for the boat it is going to be built and I'm going to sail it. I've just by co-incidence had another brilliant brain wave about those removable hiking benches, blindingly simple, comfortable as an armchair by co-incidence and super light... Make em inflatable!.

Appluading the effort and yes, while it's nice to get a flavour for where you're going, I can't help thinking this is a little like trying to be West Ham manager from a designers point-of-view. You come up with some prelim renders and numbers and they get splashed on a forum for all and sundry to comment on...... but, hey, makes interesting enough reading

Yes of course, and hopefully quite dramatically, there's way too great a wetted surface area as it stands. But the illustration also indicates the rocker is working. I gather (I'm no expert on these new fangled programmes) it provides an indicator for drag coeffient in displacement style yotting, but it is a great aid nonetheless, so when we tweak the angles it should show positive or negative values. I imagine it works fantastically on a proper traditional boat, this thing is a bit left field, but without these illustrations that it 'theoretically' will work, I don't think the boys would be very keen to let me go ahead and waste their time.

The wetted surface pictures are all very well, but as soon as the boat has any speed on won't they be entirely misleading? The bow and stern wave systems are going to have a big impact on what is immersed.

Three sail single hander? Good stuff! |

Like some other things - sailing is more enjoyable when you do it with someone else

Yes, very much the biggest challenge, we're tryin to do it with a three stage rocker so in the very light stuff we can lift the stern and or rock it over to one side. ![]() Wetted surface Bow Up (which will reduce with dynamic lift as the boat planes) ![]() Wetted surface Bow down, stern lifted. This with assumed 150 kilos on board which is unlikely. These two show it from another angle. ![]() ![]() It is an issue and we're not done with it yet. Big baggything up front goes without saying, as might be a self tacking jib on its own boom a la model yacht.

Whatever you do try to ensure it performs very well in light winds otherwise it's dead in the water. Light winds were/are the death knell for Vortex/smallCat types of boat. And let's have a big baggy thing up front.
