First sail and race of the season, leeward mark, pull in sheet, that block should be attached to something, that'll be the traveller car then...

Fantastic sailing conditions at Alton Water this weekend, unbroken sunshine, nice wind strength and in a direction that that allowed some lovely long reaches....if only more weekends were like that !

At the other end of the spectrum, I took my three year old out in an Optibat on Sunday for the first time.  Glorious weather, great location and we had a fantasctic time - we even overtook a capsized 700!  Many thanks to Chew Valley Lake SC for providing free oppies.

Little Peaky even went straight to sleep at bedtime - although I'm sure I heard him claim he was "the captain" just before he closed his eyes.

Sailing from the Blackwater SC this weekend in the N18, which was very nice,  but was very jealous to see the 600ff having about a million times more fun.  one day perhaps, one day.

Missed an interesting weekend. B14 fleet suffered, on Saturday:
one boat ripping out a pintle and subserquently snapping the top off their mast
a shredded spinnaker
a cracked carbon wing (very worrying)
many broken sailors

thanks to some rather nasty wind-against-tide action. Barry and I failed to finish the first two races, and headed for shore. Didn't help that I was already broken from my birthday on Friday. Tried to drink through the tiredness on Saturday night; ended up in bed at 9pm!

Today, first race was full on (but with much flatter water)- excellent fun. The wind then died and started to swing round- the last race was at about 180° to the first one. Less fun, on the foredeck :(

Medway conditions testing.  Our long distance race, the Wilsonian Grand Prix, suffered from some tricky wind.  We had cloud streets from the SW for the first 2/3s and this meant some parts of the course had wind and others didn't.

We started in a strong Westerly which suddenly switched back and forth to a S Westerly and lightened, eventually dying.  An Easterly then came in and was blowing nicely by the time we'd showered and were drinking our beers.

The Wayfarers and other slower boats who stated early managed to sail most of the course in a breeze, and two very fast boats made good use of it too.  But the slower fast handicap boats were caught out.
